Marlborough – Mayor Arthur Vigeant is once again appealing to city residents to submit their names for consideration for a variety of openings on city boards and committees. Through Vigeant’s previous outreach efforts to involve more residents in city government, many voices were brought to the table and are now serving on one of several boards and committees throughout the city.

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), Planning Board, Historical Commission and the Commission on Disabilities currently have openings.
The purpose of the ZBA is to hear and decide applications for variances with respect to land or structures. In addition, the ZBA will decide appeals from decisions of administrative officials of the city made under the Zoning Ordinances.
The Planning Board of Marlborough is a seven-member board comprised of individuals appointed by the mayor and the City Council. It is primarily concerned with any subdivision of land. The board is also the special permit granting authority for any “Open Space” subdivision granted under the authority of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Marlborough. Additionally, the board also reviews any requests for relief or variance from the city’s sign ordinance, as well as the special permit granting authority for work on any of the city’s scenic roads.
The Historical Commission reviews applications for work being done on properties in local historic districts and maintains an inventory of historic resources, buildings, and properties.
The function of the Commission on Disabilities is to address the needs and concerns of residents with disabilities and promote their full participation in the activities and services of Marlborough. To promote equal access to community life and activities for people with disabilities, the Marlborough Commission on Disabilities serves as an advisory board to the city. The commission is also a resource for individuals with disabilities regarding programs and services provided by state and local governments.
